Hope Milele Africa is a US faith based non-profit that exists to support the educational, medical and spiritual needs of children. Currently our work is centered on manageable projects in East Africa. Our organization was founded to provide grants to Africa based non profits that deliver high quality services to African families in need. Our goal is to provide maximum services with minimum overhead and excellent accountability. Funded organizations must provide and adhere to strict budget guidelines. They must provide clear evidence of services delivered and are accountable for all funds expended on behalf of children and their families.
Our Mission: "To share the Love and hope of Jesus Christ by nourishing the body, the mind and the spirit of those in need."
““Our goal is not to grow a large organization or business, but to grow healthy children . We hope to make a big difference, one child at a time.””
Who we are and The story of HMa
Interestingly, four of our primary founders are honorably retired law enforcement officers from neighboring municipal and county agencies. They retired at management or executive level positions, each with over 30 years of dedicated public service to their communities. Two of their wives are on the board as well. Every board member has decades of non profit and/or public management experience. All are actively involved in serving in their churches in a variety of ways, including leadership positions ranging from pastor, elder, board member, and bible teachers. Collectively they are experienced in budgeting, accountability, management, human resources, fundraising, and supervision. All are well grounded in their faith and all have decades of faithful marriage.
Each of our board members have worked individually and collectively on projects in East Africa. All have hosted African children and African adults in their homes. Some have visited the countries we serve in East Africa. All have a passion to serve and give back, both locally and globally. Several have volunteered for decades internationally with other mission and non governmental organizations (NGO's). Some have worked with international NGO and mission organizations in issues related to security and others have served internationally on short term mission trips. All have served as volunteers on a variety of local community projects.
Sadly, one US based organization that our board members had been sponsoring children through was forced to close due to financial accountability issues with African partners based in Rwanda. The board members realized that unless someone stepped up, many of the children they had come to know would lose vital access to education, healthcare and spiritual support. In 2015, they began working collectively with the Ugandan based ministry, Siyabonga, to provide food packages and supplies to some of the children they know in neighboring Rwanda. These children either lost support or had reductions in support.
When the individual board members recognized that they could provide direct support to the children, with minimum overhead, they decided to form Hope Milele Africa. The organization was developed in order to fund projects of small African based non-profits that deliver quality services at significantly reduced costs.
One goal of Hope Milele Africa is to ensure accountability and transparency of expenses, so that donor dollars actually go directly to the needs of children and their families. Since forming, they have helped with immediate relief in the form of food, medical support, school supplies and ongoing education. They are also hoping to build a strong spiritual foundation for families in need, hence the name Milele, which is a Swahili word meaning "forever" or eternal.
As they become more established and resources permit, the board is strongly committed to micro enterprise projects. They believe it is important to find ways for families to become self sufficient. They hope to empower families to rise above their circumstances, creating sustainability and vitality in their communities.
