SHARING THE LOVE AND HOPE OF JESUS CHRIST BY NOURISHING THE BODY, THE MIND, AND THE SPIRIT OF THOSE IN NEED.
— Hope Milele Africa Mission Statement

About Us

Hope Milele Africa has been incorporated since 2016. Most members of our Board of Directors individually have a lengthy history of involvement in African projects and support of African ministry. Working with established, and accountable African partners, we have undertaken delivery of food, educational support and essential supplies in East Africa.  We were founded originally to replace vital services that were stopped unexpectedly by one organization that had been working in Burundi. This closure left hundreds of children without access to food, education, and Bible classes in one of the poorest nations on earth. We also began filling some gaps caused by related service reductions in Rwanda. In addition to filling these service gaps, we are supporting other projects that were already in progress in Kenya and Uganda. Individual projects can be found by country on this web page.

In May of 2020 we undertook our first relief effort outside Africa when the corona virus began taking a deadly toll on indigenous populations in remote villages near Pucallpa, Peru. Peru had one of the highest death tolls per capita of any developing country. Through our donor base and outreach we raised funds to supply physician and nursing care to well over 4,000 people living in remote regions along the Amazon basin.

In March of 2022 we undertook a second relief project outside Africa. We partnered with Mission Eurasia in Ukraine, providing relief to refugees and those suffering inside and outside Ukraine

While our primary focus continues to be on education and development in Africa, we were pleased to be able to support relief efforts in Peru and Ukraine during times of extreme crisis.

In 2022 and 2023 we helped raise money to obtain permits and lay the foundation for a school being built by Baho Community in Rwanda.

Our story - A Long Journey of Preparation

Interestingly, four of our original founders are honorably retired law enforcement officers from neighboring municipal and county agencies in Sonoma County, California, USA.  They retired at management or executive level positions, each with over 30 years of dedicated public service to their communities.  Two of their wives joined the board as well

After the first year of operation, two of the founding members moved on to other endeavors. One moved out of the area and the other has helped two children complete their educational goals and continues to support two more. These founding board members have been replaced by two members substantial experience in ministry and accounting.   All are actively involved in serving in their churches in a variety of ways, with several in leadership and pastoral positions.  Collectively, our board members are experienced in budgeting, accountability, management, human resources, fundraising, and supervision.   All are well grounded in their faith. Most have have decades of faithful marriage.

Each of our board members have worked individually and collectively on projects in East Africa.  Most have hosted African children and African adults in their homes and two have visited the countries we serve in East Africa.  All have a passion to serve and give back, both locally and globally.  Several have volunteered for decades internationally with other mission and non governmental organizations (NGO's).  Some have worked with international NGO and mission organizations in issues related to security and others have served internationally on short term mission trips.  All have served as volunteers on a variety of local community projects.

One goal of HMA is to ensure accountability and transparency of expenses, so that donor dollars actually go directly to the needs of children and their families.  Once formally incorporated, HMA helped with immediate relief in the form of food, medical support, school supplies and ongoing education to our African countries.  Our most important goal is to build a strong spiritual foundation for families in need, hence the name Milele, which is a Swahili word meaning "forever" or eternal.

As HMA has become more established we have also helped families rebuild homes destroyed by storms, helped with cancer treatments, developed community wells and helped with other relief projects such as our recent corona virus relief efforts in Peru. We believe it is ultimately important to find ways for families to become self sufficient and have helped with some small scale micro-enterprise projects, trade schools and vocational education.  Our hope is hope to empower families to rise above their circumstances, creating sustainability and vitality in their communities.
